Ralph Lerner is an American lawyer. He has been a partner in the New York office of Sidley Austin since 1987. His practice includes art law and individual tax and estate planning. He has significant experience in all aspects of art law including dealing with auction houses, consignment agreements and tax planning for items of tangible personal property. He is general counsel for the Appraisers Association of America, Inc.
Lerner is the co-author of ?Art Law?, the preeminent treatise on the law and the visual arts. He represents many private foundations and public charities. He is chair of the Fine Arts Committee of the New York State Bar Association and a Fellow of the American College of Trusts and Estates Counsel.
