Nan Goldin is a notable American fine-art and documentary photographer.
From 1980-1986, Goldin took photographs of the Bowery’s hard drug subculture to form her famous work “The Ballad of Sexual Dependency”. The snapshot aesthetic images depict drug use, violent, aggressive couples and autobiographical moments.
The Pompidou Centre, Paris, held a major retrospective of her work in 2002. She won the Hasselbad Award in 2007 and is currently represented by Matthew Marks Gallery, New York.
