John Gregory Dunne (May 25, 1932 - December 30, 2003) was an American novelist, screenwriter and literary critic. He was a journalist for ‘Time’ magazine after college and later collaborated with his wife, Joan Didion, on a series of screenplays, including ‘Panic in Needle Park’ in 1971, ‘A Star Is Born’ in 1976, and ‘True Confessions’ in 1981, which was an adaptation of Dunne?s novel. In addition to his fictional novels, he also wrote two non-fiction books, ‘The Studio’ and ‘Monster’.
Dunne?s literary criticism frequently appeared in ‘The New York Review of Books’ and his essays were collected in two books, ‘Quintana & Friends’ and ‘Crooning’. He also wrote and narrated the 1990 PBS documentary ‘L.A. is It: with John Gregory Dunne’.
