Cuauhtemoc Cardenas is a Mexican politician. He is a former governor of Michoacán, former Head of Government of the Federal District and a founder of the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD). Cardenas served as a senator for the state of Michoacán and as governor of that same state. In 1987, he and other politicians from the PRI created the Corriente Democrática, and in 1989, Cuauhtemoc and other politicians formally founded the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD). Today, Cárdenas remains a senior member of the PRD.
