Ernest R. May is an American writer and political advisor. He has been a consultant at various times to the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the National Security Council, and other agencies. He has been Dean of Harvard College, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Director of the Institute of Politics, and Chair of the Department of History.
May?s publications include “Thinking in Time: The Uses of History for Decision-Makers”; “The Kennedy Tapes: Inside the White House During the Cuban Missile Crisis”; and “Strange Victory: Hitler’s Conquest of France. At the Kennedy School”. He is also a member of the board of directors of the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs. In 2003 to 2004 he was Senior Advisor to the 9/11 Commission.
