Joseph Heller (May 1, 1923 to December 12, 1999) was an American satirist author. He wrote the influential “Catch-22” which told the tale of American servicemen during World War II. It was this work that was the origination for the expression, catch 22, used commonly to express absurdity in choice. Heller is widely regarded as one of the best post-World War satirists.
