Karen Schoemer is an American rock critic and author. She wrote the book “Great Pretenders : My Strange Love Affair with ‘50s Pop Music,” a coming of age story and a series of interviews with the likes of Fabian, Pat Boone, Frankie Laine, Patti Page, Tommy Sands and Connie Francis.

Schoemer’s work has appeared in “Rolling Stone,”” Newsweek,” “Spin,” and the “New York Times.” She has contributed to many anthologies, including “Rock She Wrote: Women Write About Rock, Pop, and Rap; Trouble Girls”: “The Rolling Stone Book of Women in Rock; Da Capo Best Music Writing 2000”; and “Innocent When You Dream: The Tom Waits Reader.”
