Dr. Peter Scardino is an expert on prostate cancer. He has pioneered techniques to decrease the effects of surgery on urinary and sexual function and to increase the chances of long term control of cancer by total removal of the prostate. Dr. Scardino and his colleagues are developing methods to predict the aggressiveness of prostate cancers and to determine whether some cancers may not need to be treated.
Dr. Scardino’s research has also focused on the identification of tissue and genetic markers that signal the behavior of a prostate cancer. He has special experience in the treatment of prostate cancers that recur after surgery or radiation therapy and is currently studying the benefits of focal, Image-guided therapy for very early cancers.
