R.P. Eddy is a renowned terrorism expert and senior fellow for counterterrorism at the Manhattan Institute. He is also the founder and executive director of the center for policing terrorism, which focuses on the role of police in the fight against terror, and he serves as Managing Director of Gerson Lehrman Group.

Previously Eddy was a United Nations diplomat and the senior policy officer to United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan. Before that position, he was director of counterterrorism at the White House National Security Council, chief of staff to the U.S. Ambassador to the U.N., and senior advisor for intelligence and counterterrorism to the Secretary of Energy.

Eddy is a member of the Council of Foreign Relations. He was awarded two Leland Fellowships, selected as a Manfred-Wörner Scholar and chosen as a Evangelische Akademie scholar.
