Carolyn McCarthy is an American politician. She has been a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives representing New York’s 4th congressional district since 1997. She serves as the Chairwoman of the Subcommittee on Healthy Families and Communities of the Education and Labor Committee, and on the Financial Services Committee.

McCarthy is a vocal advocates for law enforcement protection and gun safety, including reinstating the federal ban on semi-automatic assault weapons.
