Lawrence Joseph Ellison is the co-founder and CEO of Oracle Corporation, a major database software company.

During the 1970s, Ellison worked for the Ampex Corporation. He founded Oracle in 1977 under the name Software Development Laboratories (SDL). In 1979, the company was renamed Relational Software Inc. and later renamed Oracle. In 1997, Ellison was made a director of Apple Computer after Steve Jobs came back to the company. Ellison resigned in 2002 and thanks to his Oracle stock he is one of the richest Americans.
