Friend is an American journalist and the current editor of creative development at “Vanity Fair”.. Friend specializes in producing and editing many of the magazine’s special projects and photographic portfolios. Prior to joining “Vanity Fair”, he served as “Life” magazine’s director of photography. Friend is the author of “Watching the World Change: The Stories Behind the Images of 9/11” (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2006). He has won Emmy and Peabody Awards as an executive producer of “9/11”, a CBS documentary that aired in 140 countries. He writes about news and photojournalism for “Vanity Fair”, “American Photo”, and “The Digital Journalist” Web site.
