Dr. Debrework Zewdie is an African social manager. She is the Director of Global HIV/AIDS Program for the World Bank. Prior to this position she managed the AIDS Campaign Team for Africa (ACTafrica), and led the team which was responsible for the US$1 billion Multi-Country HIV/AIDS Program for Africa.
Before joining the Bank in 1994, Dr. Zewdie was Deputy Regional Director of the Africa Region for the AIDS Control. Dr. Zewdie also established and headed the Referral Laboratory for HIV/AIDS in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, served as Program Manager of Ethiopia’s AIDS/STD Prevention and Control Program, and taught immunology to medical students at Addis Ababa University.
