Benjamin D. Brantley is an American journalist and drama critic. He became chief theater critic of “The New York Times” in September 1996, after having served as a drama critic for the newspaper since joining the August 1993.

Prior to joining “The Times,” Brantley was a staff writer at “The New Yorker” magazine, a writer for “Vanity Fair” magazine, as well as a film reviewer for “Elle” magazine.
