Barry Sternlicht is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Starwood Capital Group, a private real estate investment firm he formed in 1991. From October 2004 until May 2005, he was Executive Chairman of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc., a company which he formed in 1995 and of which he was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer from 1995 until October 2004. Sternlicht also is a trustee of Brown University and serves on the boards of numerous civic organizations and charities including the Committee to Encourage Corporate Philanthropy, Business Committee for the Arts, Inc., The Harvard Club, Thirteen/WNET, the Center for Christian-Jewish Understanding, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International’s “National Leadership Advocacy Program”’, and Kids in Crisis.
