Brown is an American art historian. He is the Carroll and Milton Petrie Professor of Fine Arts at New York University’s Institute of Fine Arts. Brown also serves as a curator of New York’s Frick Collection.
Brown is regarded as the leading authority on Spanish painting of the Golden Age. He is author of numerous studies on Spanish painting, the history of collecting, and art at European courts.
