Ashton B. Carter is a United States national security professional. He was Ford Foundation Professor of Science and International Affairs at Harvard University, and an advisor to John Kerry during the latter’s 2004 campaign for the U.S. presidency. Carter also served as Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Policy for former President Bill Clinton, from 1994-1996.
