Dorothy Lichtenstein serves on the boards of the Parrish Art Museum, Trisha Brown Dance Company, and Studio in a School.

Lichtenstein attended Arcadia University (formerly Beaver College), where she studied art history. She was formerly the director of the Bianchini Art Gallery in New York and met Roy Lichtenstein in 1964 when the gallery presented The Great Supermarket which included his work. They married in 1968 and moved to Southampton in 1970 where she has lived for thirty-five years. She is the recipient of the Chevalier of Arts and Letters from the French Government. She founded the Roy Lichtenstein Foundation after the death of the artist in 1999.
