Leonard Downie, Jr. is the American executive editor of ‘The Washington Post’. In 1971 he was awarded a two-year Alicia Patterson Foundation fellowship, studying urban problems in the United States and Europe. He is the author of four books: ‘Justice Denied’, ‘Mortgage on America’, ‘The New Muckrakers, and ‘The News About the News: American Journalism in Peril’.
