Robert Evans, born Robert J. Shapera, is an American is a film producer best known for his work on ‘Rosemary’s Baby’, ‘Love Story’, ‘The Godfather’ and ‘Chinatown’.
Evans got his start acting in ‘Man of a Thousand Faces’ and also in the film adaptation of Ernest Hemingway’s ‘The Sun Also Rises’. He then decided to hone his talent as a director by purchasing the rights to a novel called ‘The Detective’, which got him noticed and hired at Paramount Pictures. When Evans became head of production for Paramount, he made the studio the most successful in Hollywood and transformed it into a very profitable enterprise for Gulf+Western. He ultimately stepped down from his position to produce films full time, including the hits ‘Chinatown’ (1974), ‘Marathon Man’ (1976), ‘Popeye’ (1980), and ‘The Cotton Club’ (1984).
Evans wrote an autobiography, ‘The Kid Stays in the Picture’ in 1994 and produced and provided the voice for his eponymous character in the animated series ‘Kid Notorious’. Evans currently hosts the Sirius Satellite Radio show ‘In Bed with Robert Evans’.
