Manning Marable is a prominent African-American political scholar. He holds the position of Professor of Public Affairs, Political Science, and History at Columbia University, where he founded and directed the Institute for Research in African-American Studies. He has published widely, and is politically active in a variety of progressive causes.

Marable?s current project is a biography of the black rights activist Malcolm X. He was recently elected Chair of Movement for a Democratic Society (MDS). He has also published “The Great Wells of Democracy”, “Freedom: The Meaning of Race in American Life”, and “Black Leadership”.
