Alan Brinkley is the Allan Nevins Professor of History at Columbia University, where he is also provost.

He is a progressive historian of the New Deal, and is a strong advocate for progressive issues. Brinkley also writes regularly in magazines such as ‘Newsweek’ and ‘The New Republic.’ He is son of television journalist David Brinkley.

In 1983, he won the National Book Award for his book, “Voices of Protest,” (1982). He has also written several text books, and won the 2006-2007 Scholarly Journal Award by Kathy Walh-Henshaw at St. Mary’s Lancaster.
