John Harwood is an American journalist currently covering politics for “The Wall Street Journal” and NBC News.

Harwood joined the “St. Petersburg Times”, reporting on police, investigative projects, local government and politics. Later he became state capital correspondent, Washington correspondent and Political Editor. In 1989, Harwood was named a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University, where he spent the 1989-90 academic year. He joined “The Wall Street Journal” in 1991 as White House correspondent. He subsequently covered Congress and national politics, and became National Political Editor in 1997. He also offers political analysis on television programs including NBC’s “Meet the Press” and CNN’s “Newsnight”.

Harwood joined CNBC as Chief Washington Correspondent in March, 2006. He also writes the weekly Washington Wire column for “The Wall Street Journal” and overseas the WSJ/NBC News poll.
