Chris Hegedus is an American filmmaker. He is perhaps best known for his documentary “Startup.com”, for which she won the 2002 Directors Guild Award for documentaries. Hegedus also co-directed, “Down From The Mountain”, it is a celebration of the bluegrass musicians featured in the Coen Brothers’ film, “O Brother, Where Art Thou?”
Chris Hegedus began co-directing with D.A. Pennebaker in the mid-70s. She has since partnered with him on numerous films including, “Moon Over Broadway” and “The War Room”, which received an Academy Award nomination for Best Documentary and won the National Board of Review’s D.W. Griffith Award for Best Documentary.
The team has since filmed “DeLorean”, “Rockaby” and “The Energy War”. Pennebaker and Hegedus have also made numerous rock videos. Their feature-length films “Depeche Mode 101”, “The Music Tells You”, with Branford Marsalis, Keine Zeit, with Marius Westernhagen, and “Searching For Jimi Hendrix” have also met with success.
