Yuri Kozyrev is a Russian born photojournalist. He has been covering the former Soviet Union and the rest of the world since becoming a professional photographer in 1986. During that time, he has covered wars in Chechnya and other areas of the former U.S.SR. He has also photographed more peaceful subjects, such as whales and baby seals on Russia’s White Sea.
Currently, Kozyrev works for the ?Los Angeles Times? and also does freelance work for such prominent international publications as ?The Times of London?, ?Time? magazine, ?Het Parool?, and ?Elseiver?. Previously, he shot for The Katz Pictures for five years, from 1991 to 1995. The Jury of the 43rd World Press Photo Contest awarded him the 1st and 3rd prizes for general news stories for a series on Russian troops in Chechnya.
