Elaine Kaufman is a prominent New York restaurateur and owner of the eponymous “Elaine’s”, an establishment popular among the city’s high society and media elite. A former waitress, Kaufman took her life savings and gambled on purchasing a place on 88th and Second Avenue in the early ‘60s and establishing a restaurant. “Elaine’s” quickly gathered momentum and established a reputation as a literary salon.
