Robert Benton is an American screenwriter and film director. He has enjoyed a highly successful career in film, winning numerous prestigious awards for both writing and directing. In 1980, Benton won the Academy Award for best direcot and best adapted screen play for “Kramer vs. Kramer” and he won another Academy Award for best original screen play for “Places in the Heart” in 1985. He was also the art director at Esquire magazine in the early 1960s.
