David Alan Mamet is an American author, essayist, playwright, screenwriter, and film director. His works are known for their clever, terse dialogue, and for his exploration of masculinity. As a playwright, he received Tony nominations for “Glengarry Glen Ross” and “Speed-the-Plow”. As a screenwriter, he received Oscar nominations for “The Verdict” and “Wag the Dog”.

Mamet?s recent books include “The Old Religion”; “Five Cities of Refuge: Weekly Reflections on Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy”; and “The Wicked Son”. In 1987, he made his film directing debut with “House of Games”. Mamet funds his own films and rewrites scripts for typically big-budget films.
