Robert Strange McNamara is an American business executive and a former United States Secretary of Defense. He served as Secretary of Defense from 1961 to 1968, during the Vietnam War period, and resigned that position to become President of the World Bank (1968 - 1981), which currently has a scholarship program under his name.

McNamara has authored numerous books over the years, including “In retrospect: the tragedy and lessons of Vietnam”, “Argument without end: in search of answers to the Vietnam tragedy”, and “Wilson?s ghost: reducing the risk of conflict, killing, and catastrophe in the 21st century”.
