David Barstow is an investigative reporter for “The New York Times”. He joined The Times in April 1999, reporting first for the Metropolitan Desk. He covered the 2000 presidential election, particularly the Florida recount, and he also wrote extensively about financial aid for the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks. Barstow joined the Investigative Desk in May 2002.

Prior to working at The Times, Barstow wrote for “The St. Petersburg Times”, where he was a finalist for three Pulitzer Prizes. In 1997, he was the lead writer for coverage of race riots that was a finalist for spot news reporting. In 1998, he was the lead writer for coverage of financial wrongdoing at the National Baptist Convention that was a finalist for investigative reporting. That same year, he was also a finalist for explanatory journalism for a series of stories about tobacco ligigation.
