American leading actor Tom Hanks has become one of the most popular stars in contemporary American cinema.

Hanks rose to prominence in the 1980s cross dressing sitcom “Bosom Buddies”. He later starred with Daryl Hannah and John Candy in the mermaid comedy “Splash”. His film career didn’t really take hold until “Big”, for which he earned an Oscar nomination. Hanks was also Oscar-nominated for Steven Spielberg’s WWII epic “Saving Private Ryan” and for the 2000 film “Cast Away”. Hanks’ comedies include “Sleepless in Seattle”, “You’ve Got Mail”, “Toy Story” and “Toy Story II”. His other films include “The Green Mile”, “The Ladykillers” and the animated feature “The Polar Express”. He starred as globetrotting professor Robert Langdon in the 2006 film “The DaVinci Code”.
