Silvan Shalom is an Israeli politician and former Foreign Minister of Israel (2003-2006) and Finance Minister (2001-2003). Shalom worked as a journalist before being elected to the Knesset member of the Likud party in 1992. He is a prominent Sephardic politician within the party. A widely unexpected candidate for the post of Foreign Minister, he switched places with Benjamin Netanyahu when the Labor Party left the government in 2002.
