Lawrence R. Rinder is a curator and dean of graduate studies at the California College of Arts. He was Curator of Contemporary Art at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, and continues as adjunct curator at the Whitney Museum.

Prior to his position at the Whitney, Rinder was founding director of the CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts. He has held teaching positions at UC Berkeley, Deep Springs College, and Columbia University.
