Jules Clément Naudet is a French filmmaker and resident of America since 1989. He was in New York City at the time of the September 11 attacks and captured footage of the first plane flying into the North tower of the World Trade Center.
With his brother Thomas Gédéon Naudet, he directed “Hope, Gloves and Redemption”, a documentary about boxers in the Bronx. The Naudet brothers were in the process of making a documentary on New York firefighters, following rookie officer Antonios “Tony” Benetatos through his experiences in Fire Department of New York academy training. On the morning of September 11, 2001, firefighters examined a reported gas leak when the North Tower was attacked, which Jules captured on tape. They immediately raced to the World Trade Center. The Naudet video footage thus became some of the most comprehensive on-site coverage of the 9/11 attacks in New York. Along with the film of Pavel Hlava and a series of webcamera shots from Wolfgang Staehle, the Naudets’ film has the only known footage of Flight 11 striking the World Trade Center.
