Brian Cox is an Emmy Award-winning Scottish actor, first gaining prominence in the early 1970s with his performances in numerous television films. His first big break was as Dr. Hannibal Lecter in Michael Mann?s Manhunter (1986). Though the film was not overly successful at the box office, Cox’s career prospects and popularity continued to develop. Throughout the 1990s, he appeared in nearly 20 films and television shows and has made numerous TV guest appearances. He has since become known for playing villains in many of his films. He was awarded the C.B.E. (Commander of the British Empire) in 2002 and has won numerous awards, including several Laurence Olivier Theatre Awards and London Critics Circle Theatre Awards.
Cox won an Emmy for his portrayal of Hermann Goring in the TV mini-series Nuremberg. More recently Cox has had roles in some major films, including The Corruptor (1999), The Bourne Identity (2002), Murder by Numbers (2002), The Ring (2002), X2 (2003), Troy (2004), Match Point (2005), The Bourne Supremacy (2004), Running with Scissors (2006), and Zodiac (2007). He also starred in the supporting role of Jack Langrishe in the HBO series Deadwood.
