I am disappointed, but not surprised, by the nature of the "discussions" that took place last night on the program. Why is it when we have so-called forums on education we do not have on an actual working teacher, principal or superintendent to voice the perspectives from inside the classroom and Read Full Comment...

Everyone is selling something or blowing smoke. I've been teaching for 12 years from Brooklyn NY, to Green Brook,NJ & currently in Franklin Township. The problem with everything your two host mentioned is that no matter what yard stick you use to measure parent inactivity is the key.

I agree that enthusiam, high expectations and dedication are integral to good teaching. However, Ms. kopp failed to explain what she considers good leadership to be. In reference to your interview with Ms. Kopp discussing her TFA program, I agree with other responders that she did not answer the question of “how do you do it”. In searching for methods for achieving success in any field we need to identify success and then determine how it is done. Apparently, one Read Full Comment...

I agree with the other comment-writers that Rose did a disservice to his audience allowing Kopp to avoid answering tough questions about tough issues. Here's one example.
Wendy Kopp says that "we can solve this problem" (lack of achievement in education) as if there is an argument Read Full Comment...

I really enjoyed the discussion of toward the end of how one cultivates artistic talent. This is one aspect of creative minds your rightly explore, Charlie.
Thanks.

The varied issues presented here are exactly the issues discussed in the national headquarters of TFA every day--a unique organization that both provides concrete, real-time results as well as an opportunity to expand the knowledge base surrounding public education, teacher quality, etc. The latter half of Read Full Comment...
